Have you had the chance to check out McDonald's website? If you're like me, you couldn't care less. Surprisingly, the McDonald’s website offers much useful information for their customers, such as nutritional information and information about what is used in their products. I liked the fact that the site is very simple and easy to navigate. You can tell the website is there to promote McDonald's products and services. The home page is clearly marked with one of their promos, the new Angus Snack Wraps! As I browsed the site, I found some interesting facts and learned that McDonalds provides other services besides the Ronald McDonald House.
Have you heard of McDonald's Hamburger University? What exactly is being taught there? Test your knowledge (right hand side). I did not know the Hamburger University existed behind McDonald’s golden arches. I found this to be very interesting and can see it’s no joke. According CNNMoney Reports, McDonald’s serves 60 million people a day! At the U, students don’t learn how to flip burgers. They actually learn the management skills to successfully run a restaurant in a five day course. You can check out the video below.

The bit about the university was very interesting! I like that it actually teaches business concepts and stratey to potential franchise owners.
ReplyDeleteI had a change to visit the famed "Hamburger U" a number of years ago. (Still have the badge from the visit even. Oh, we were supposed to turn those in?!)
ReplyDeleteAt the time, circa 2002, I was working with a consulting firm. We were partners with IBM on some work McDonald's was doing to enhance their customer experience.
It was an lively place with all kinds activity underway. It's always interesting to pull back the curtain of large organizations to learn how they operate. This "corporate university" model has been a very successful one for McDonald's.
Although I am not a McDonald’s food fan, the company and its site seem to be run efficiently. Their website is impressive as it is easy to navigate. The part that I enjoyed most was the fact that they shared their nutritional values for each of the items they sell. Even though required in many states it’s nice to see that broadcast so openly.
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of Hamburger University. This allows managers the opportunity to grow and learn where it's safe to make mistakes, without affecting the bottom line. Interesting, thanks!
ReplyDeleteI agree that the McDonalds website was clean and easy to navigate. They also did an excellent job at promoting their new products (front and center). Although it doesn’t make me want to go and order a Big Mac it certainly brought the basis of McDonalds and their marketing strategies into perspective.
ReplyDeleteWhile the Hamburger University may not be common knowledge, it certainly helps explain the largely unprecedented expansion enjoyed by the corporation throughout the last 50 years. It clearly wasn't an accident that brought about the fast food chain's dominance, careful consideration went into their plan (as evidenced by the interviews in the video clip we watched earlier in this class).
